Case Studies
Asbury Case Study
The Asbury Group developed proprietary software (based on Microsoft SharePoint technology) for Asbury Communities. The software allows for integrated information capture and management at all levels of the organization. The system marries several programs and integrates financial, operations, human resources and clinical data into a single system. Managers have minute to minute information about the most important indicators.
Ecumen Case Study
Like many not-for-profit older adult services providers, Ecumen's history is rooted in skilled care communities. In 2001, Ecumen embarked on an aggressive transformation strategy that recognized the need to re-balance its portfolio, namely, to reduce the number of nursing home beds and increase the range of residential living options and enhance community-based services. Well down the path of achieving this balance, Ecumen sees its next frontier as providing services beyond bricks and mortar and to do so in innovative ways that meet consumer needs and desires. Ecumen holds that technology is key to creating this future, utilizing QuietCare, Ivivi, Caretracker and Dakim systems.
Elant Case StudyEskaton Case Study
Like many organizations, Eskaton faced the operational challenge of shifting staff time from paperwork to resident care and an infrastructure challenge in older buildings. Their forward-thinking approach to technology and partnerships helped them succeed in several technology initiatives. This case study highlights Eskaton's implementation of the Achieve POC system.
Eskaton/Dakim Case Study
In January 2007, Eskaton partnered with Dakim to pilot the [m]Power program which aimed to improve the cognitive functions of their residents. Knowing that medical research had shown that cognitive stimulation could stave off dementia, the decision to pilot the program was simple. Self-adjusting challenge levels, touch screen and a senior-friendly interface are the features of the technology which attract participants, and in turn, boost mental activity, ultimately improving their quality of life.
Eskaton/Intel Case Study
In June 2006, Eskaton partnered with Intel in a year-long test of a new technology concept. The technology would allow Eskaton's residents to access their personal health records online via a virtual file cabinet. Records, uploaded from providers by fax or scanner or entered directly by the residents, formed PDF files within the virtual file cabinet. Access would be given, at the resident's discretion, to providers and family members. Known concerns and challenges with the program were: encouraging providers to add faxing paperwork to current workflow; the quality of those faxed images and maximizing usefulness to the resident. The goals of the study were to evaluate ease-of-use of the system and determine the value participants found in using it.
Lutheran Homes Case Study
Like many organizations, Lutheran Homes of Michigan is shifting its focus to accommodate the wants and needs of a new generation LHM hopes to build models to allow elders to stay independent in their homes longer with a higher quality of life. This case looks at how LHM has begun to extend its medication management technology pilot to populations within increasing disabilities. LHM has sights on leveraging the technology to truly empower the most vulnerable elders.
Presbyterian Case Study
Presbyterian Senior Living had been participating in 36-month FMV leases for the traditional phone private branch exchange (PBX) systems at their facilities. At the end of the lease term, Presbyterian Senior Living would then return the PBX equipment and lease a new system with similar capabilities and new models of phones. The organization engaged Prelude Services to investigate alternative telecommunication options for these phone system replacements. This partnership ultimately led Presbyterian Senior Living to integrate Voice over IP (VoIP) technology into several of their communities. The case study offers insights into the obstacles and opportunities both Presbyterian Senior Living and Prelude encountered during this process.
